Tim Shriver likes to talk to his house. “Turn the porch light on at 3 p.m.,” he says through an intercom to the female voice that belongs to his house. She confirms that she will make sure the light comes on as instructed. “Open my shopping list, and add apples, bananas and bread,” he continues. She assures him she will update the shopping list, as well. As CEO of Home Automated Living, Shriver has a completely automated house.

Hands-On With the Jawbone Big Jambox: 2.7 Pounds of Audio Fury, Available May 15 for $299
Posted on May 3rd, 2012 by
Bigger isn’t necessarily better but in the case of Jawbone’s Jambox, it might actually work out. Typically known for their Bluetooth headsets and the ill-fated-but-not-quite-dead UP band, Jawbone has figured out what their “cool kids” product is and it happens to be a tiny portable speaker. But for the second generation version, simply called Big Jambox, the company is cranking up the volume from 10 to 11. While it retains some portability, the Big Jambox is really meant for those instances where you have 20 people posted up near the bonfire or you’re looking for a no-fuss micro system for your home entertainment center. At less than three pounds — 2.7 pounds to be specific — it’s still portable but everything else is on steroids. Jawbone says the built-in battery will last up to 15 hours for continuous playback and 500 hours of standby.

‘The Voice’: Jermaine Paul, Juliet Simms Make The Finals
Posted on May 3rd, 2012 by
Tony Lucca and Chris Mann also advance to the final four, while Lindsay Pavao, Katrina Parker, Erin Willett and Jamar Rogers exit.
By John Mitchell
Christina Aguilera and Lindsay Pavao
Photo: NBCThe results are in, and the four “Voice” contestants moving on to the finals have been decided.
Each artist was assigned two scores, both out of 100, following their performances on Monday night’s show. The first came from their respective judge, while America’s vote determined the other. The contestant from each team with the highest overall score advanced to the finals.
With no last-chance performances or saves left in the game, the night’s singing came from last year’s top four: Dia Frampton, Vicci Martinez, Beverly McClellan and winner Javier Colon.
Frampton, who repped Team Blake last year, was first to the stage, performing her new single “Don’t Kick the Chair” with Kid Cudi. If anything, the fact that Frampton remains a viable enough recording artist to be performing the lead single from her upcoming record with a major artist like Cudi is a testament to the fact that whether they advance or not, these folks will be just fine.
After Frampton’s performance came the night’s first elimination. Aguilera evenly split her 100 points between her two contestants, Chris Mann and Lindsay Pavao, saying the two were so different and performed so strongly that she felt it right to let America decide who should advance.
America’s vote was close, but ultimately it was Mann who prevailed, earning a total score of 104 to Pavao’s 96, meaning America’s vote went 54 to 46 in Mann’s favor.
Season-one finalist Vicci Martinez performed her new single, “Come Along,” and she got a little help from mentor Cee Lo.
Next up was Adam, who awarded Tony Lucca 60 points to Katrina Parker’s 40, saying that while Parker is easily the contest’s most improved contestant, he felt that, going into the finals, his connection with Lucca would better serve the rocker on his way to a potential victory.
America, it seems, felt the same. Lucca prevailed with an overall score of 108. Parker did snag an impressive 48 points from America’s vote, though her total score of 92 fell short.
Team Christina’s season one contestant, rocker Beverly McClellan, hit the stage next to perform “Money Changes Everything” with ’80s pop icon Cyndi Lauper. McClellan, like Frampton, has a new album, Fear Nothing, on the way, reaffirming the sentiment Adam shared with his own team when they were on the chopping block: that all the contestants should take the exposure they’ve gained being on such a popular platform and use it as a launching pad, as both Frampton and McClellan (regardless of the fact that they lost) clearly have.
After last year’s winner, Team Adam’s Javier Colon, wowed the crowd with his new single “Drop in the Ocean,” Team Blake hit the ring to find out who would stay and who would go.
Like Christina, Blake evenly divided his 100 points between Erin Willett and Jermaine Paul, saying he didn’t want to be part of the decision-making process anymore. (At least he was honest.) However, America went big for Jermaine, giving the former Alicia Keys backup singer a whopping 77 points for a 123 total. By comparison, Willett totaled only 77.
The night’s biggest surprise came when Team Cee Lo stepped forward for elimination. Cee Lo chose to go the Adam route, splitting his points 60/40 between rocker Juliet Simms (60), whose performance of “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” earned the most praise of the night from the panel, and Jamar Rogers (40).
With his compelling backstory and high-energy performances, Rogers has been a front-runner throughout the competition, but America clearly felt the same as the judges regarding Juliet. She snagged another 61 points from the public vote for a 121 total, besting Rogers’ combined 79.

Posted on May 2nd, 2012 by
These days? smartphones have a number of uses in our busy lives and are used for many things that were once confined to our home computers, and today we have news of something a little different in the shape of the Desk Pets robotic tank, which are controlled via Android and iOS apps.
The smart looking Tankbot are basically an app controlled micro robotic tank that has three control modes, with its cute design and light up eyes, which coupled with sounds give the Tankbot a personality of its own. This clever little gadget will keep you entertained for hours and works with the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and most popular Android handsets.
With its flip out USB connector allows you to charge your Tankbot at home, school or at work. This isn?t your ordinary remote controlled tank, as it features advanced optical navigation technology that allows it to move effortlessly around any terrain without constantly bumping into things.
It has three different control modes with the navigation mode sees Tankbot moving around avoiding objects, while another mode sees Tankbot roam freely going where it wants to flashing its lights and making sounds. The final mode makes use of the iDeskPet Universal Remote to let users manually control Tankbot from their smartphone.
The iDeskPet Universal Remote plugs into your headphone port so Tankbot won?t suffer from interference like other Bluetooth remote controlled vehicles. Along with the remote is the free application that is available via the App Store and Google Play, and each colour of Tankbot runs on its own frequency so users can have races or just let them play together.
Charging your Tankbot via the USB connector for forty minutes will provide fifteen minutes of play, and each one is priced at ?24.95. Click here for more information and to order.

BlackBerry 10 developer toolkit released in beta, adds Native and WebWorks SDKs for app-building flexibility
Posted on May 2nd, 2012 by
Will BlackBerry 10 be the hallowed OS that heals Waterloo’s recent wounds or yet another RIM-shot to highlight its foibles? Only the fickle tide of consumer interest will certainly tell. But while the success and awareness of that new platform undoubtedly rests on the company’s shoulders, a great deal of it also hinges upon crucial developer support. To spur things along in that latter department, RIM’s released its developer toolkit in beta today. The tools, launched ahead of forthcoming BB 10 devices and the nascent ecosystem that they’ll depend upon, are designed for flexibility, allowing third parties to choose between the Native SDK with its OS-specific APIs or the WebWorks SDK for HTML5 and CSS. The company’s even gotten a head-start and partnered with the likes of Gameloft, which has already committed to optimizing 11 of its software titles for use on the platform. There’s still a long road to US recovery ahead for the ailing BlackBerry brand, so let’s hope this latest call-to-arms isn’t lost on the dev community. Click on past the break for the official PR.
